Ottawa Falls Colours Marathon 2016


It’s been too too long.

I haven’t ran an event in like what? 2 years?


Nah Nah Nah.

That’s not ok.

My next move is to run the Ottawa Falls Colours Half-Marathon on Sunday October 9th.

Word of the wise; Don’t think you can train for a full marathon in only a month.

Ok, so I got cocky, I thought that I had this marathon in the bag.

I was running a 20k on Wed evening and was trekking along. On the 15th kilometer, I felt a familiar pain in my knee…oh oh, ITBS!! I eased my posture a bit, adjusted my core so that would be in this rigid chi pose. After about 10 minutes, I felt the pain ease up, but I still felt my right knee throbbing a bit. I completed the 20k and went home. I wasn’t tired but….that pain:S

2 days later, Im still feeling that pain! Ahhh ITBS is back!! I have to calm down on my training so that it doesn’t become a full-fledged injury. I went to the gym last night to work on my glutes and hamstrings (since I heard ITBS is caused by weak backside muscles)

I’m sooo disappointed. Looks like I’ll have to put my marathon on the back burner for another day/event. I feel sooo ashamed that I couldn’t do this.

But you know, I’ll still get the half-marathon metal (if I feel my knee is ok to train by Monday). I’m sooooooo sad that I won’t be able to get that full marathon metal.

Well..until then, I’ll just use my foam roller to break down the tissue..but not risking an injury that will affect my everyday running for ONE DAY of running.

Still though…I REALLY wanted that metal.

Marathon day logistics

Hmmm…I’m not sure what to do come the day of my marathon.

When I go back to Ottawa for this marathon, I don’t know how I’ll get to war museum since I have no car. And I don’t know who’s going to watch my stuff while I’m running for those 4 hours. And I don’t know how I’ll get home after because I KNOW my legs are going to be tired and I’ll be so sweaty and gross.

Should I take a taxi there and back? Should I just show up empty handed? Oh wait..I need a jacket…Hmm. What else.


Ok the real deal is I’ll be soooo lonely marathon day!! This is so corny but those last two Winterman events. My then boyfriend would come watch me and cheer me on. He was supposed to be watching me this year! So with that saying..I’m feeling a bit melancholic because this is a big event that I’ve been really looking forward to and this REALLY sucks that no one is going to be there.

I wonder if I can hire someone to cheer me on and hold a huge sign that says “Run Martine. Run!”. haha.

Anyways…16 days until this marathon. I gotta get this all figured out. I might ask one of my friends. I don’t know. We’ll see…


17 days until the marathon

It’s crunch time!

17 days until I complete the 2013 Winterman

I am at the edge of my seat! I am NOT at the place I should be to run a full pledged marathon but I am not despairing yet!

I still have 17 days so I am not freaking out just yet….I’m more excited than anything. I LOVE the challenge of pacing myself and knowing that I could do it if I put my mind to it!!

With that saying, I’ve been eating like crazy so that I could have energy to run my training distances.

Tonight I was invited out to dinner but umm..sorry boo, gotta do my thang here! lol. I was supposed to go to Ottawa but travelling can wait! I gotta do this. Gotta focus!

Anyways. I will post more on this later;)


What’s your motivation?

Enough with the depressing posts. Let’s talk about the real deal; running!

This morning in Toronto, North York, its -14 degrees with a high windshield so it feels like its -22! It was a bit of a struggle waking up because I just did NOT feel like getting out of my warm bed. Especially when I opened the door and a gust of wind hit me in the face. I was like oh helllllz no!

But then I just continued running with Kanye West’s workout plan song blaring in my ears.

His lyrics go:

“That’s right, put in work, move your ass, go berserk, eat your salad, no dessert, Get that man you deserve”

And I thought Hmmm…what’s MY motivation to run?

I know summer time is coming up in a few months and usually I’m one to pull out the shorts and the tank tops but thats not my primary motivation.

What gets me out of bed to go running everyday? What has made me maintain this running routine for all these years?

I have NO idea. haha. Absolutly NO idea.

Actually…Hmmm..Well..I know that what makes me run is that fact that I know it will make me feel really good in the end plays a huge role. It REALLY feel great coming back from a jog.

All these endorphins rush through my blood and I’m cloud nine. Also…I really enjoy the sense of accomplishment of when I come back from a run in horrible weather and people are like Wow your crazy…And also, it feels really sluggish in the morning without that morning exercise.

But hey…I gotta think about this. I have to think about what makes me run hard everyday…

THEN, I’m going to step my game up.

Run a lil’ faster

I gotta break 4 hours for this marathon coming up.

A bit melancholic…

The Somersault 2013 Winterman event is coming up in less than 3 weeks and its crunch time.

I have to admit that I’ve been sort of slacking off in my training. I haven’t been logging in my kilometers outside like I had planned to. Instead, I have been going to the gym and spending too much time on the treadmill.

I have to step my game up.

So these last few days I’ve been running up and down my neightborhood trying to make up for lost time.

I’m scared! For the first time in my “running career” I’m nervous of not doing it. First off, I used to have someone thre to support me and encourage me during my training. Also, that same person would be there to cheer me on during my running events. Since that person is no longer in my life, I’ll be all alone:(

So I’m doing this event for me!

I can do it!!

Dreams made into reality



What is happening now:

– Well-paying job but boring as hell

– Thousands of dollars in student loans

– I spend money on useless things to distract from my boring 8-4pm desk job


What I want

-No student loans

-Well paying running job, exciting and rewarding

– Feel rewarded on experiences I gain and not on the things I own


What  I will do:

– Get part-time job to make extra income

– Spend every dime on things I need to start my running career and pay off my student loans

– Be financially free so that I don’t need to rely on a boring job to live a fulfilling life

Running after work

This is my face after work :


I’m usually tired and cranky and in no mood to do anything but curl up in bed and watch a good movie.

As I mentioned previously, I run in the early mornings. It gets me invigorated for the day and I feel great!

However, after scraping my car for 15 minutes, driving with half defrosted windows to my running spot and almost being late, I realized that something has got to change: my running time!

As of today, I, Martine, will be running after work.

Let’s see how that turns out…..
